    UTAS short courses give you access expert-led course content to enhance your professional skills, increase your general knowledge, or simply explore a new area of interest or hobby without the commitment of time or money usually required of a university course. We have a variety of short courses run throughout the year, both online and face-to-face.

  • Who can register in a short course?

    UTAS short courses are suitable for everyone - no matter what your background. There is no particular experience or previous study required.

  • Who would benefit from studying these short courses?

    UTAS short courses are open to everyone. Whether you’re looking to learn a new skill, explore a personal interest, or take your career to the next level, you will be able to find a UTAS short course which suits your professional or personal development needs.

  • How do I register in a short course?

    All registrations can be made via the University of Tasmania short course page. Simply find the course you’re interest in and click Register Now. You will be able to pay and register on the spot.

  • How much does a short course cost?

    Our courses are priced according to their delivery and duration. Please see individual courses for exact price.

  • What are the payment options?

    Full payment is required at the time of registration via the UTAS short courses registration page.

  • What happens after I register in a short course?

    After you register in a short course, you will receive an email confirmation. This confirmation will confirm the course, fee paid, and provide contact details specific to the short course in which you have registered. Please check that your personal details are correct, including your name and email address. If there are any further details to be confirmed, such as workshop location and times, we will contact you prior to starting your course starting via the email address provided.

  • How long does a short course stay open for?

    The duration of short courses will differ depending on each offering. Please see individual courses for exact duration.

  • Will the short course be offered again if I can't register this time?

    Yes, many of our short courses will be offered more than once. If you would like to be contacted when a particular short course becomes available, please contact [email protected].

Course Content FAQ

  • Are all short courses completely online?

    Our short courses will be offered either online, via face-to-face workshops or by combination of both online and face-to-face. Please see individual courses for how they are delivered.

  • Are there any exams or assignments?

    There are no exams or assignments.

  • Can I be granted an extension or access to the short course material outside the time frame that the course runs?

    Unfortunately, as the short courses run for only a short period of time we cannot offer extensions or access to the course after the closing date.

  • What if I have any questions about the short courses?

    If you have any other questions about short courses, please contact us at [email protected]. Alternatively, if you are already enrolled in a short course you can reach out to the course coordinator.

  • Will I need to log into the short course at particular times?

    No. There is no live or real-time material, so you can log on at any time throughout the duration of the short course.

  • Do I receive a certificate of completion at the end of my short course?

    Yes. A digital Certificate of Completion will be made available to you once you have successfully completed your short course.

  • What happens if my short course has a workshop which I cannot attend?

    If having registered in a short course which has a workshop component, an unforeseen circumstance arises which prevents you from attending the workshop, contact [email protected] as soon as possible.

  • What happens if I cannot complete the content of my short course?

    If having registered in a short course an unforeseen circumstance arises which prevents you from completing the content, please contact [email protected] as soon as possible.

  • Am I eligible for a refund if I cannot complete my short course?

    Refunds can only be granted if you have not accessed the course content and if the circumstances preventing you from completing the course are unforeseen and out of your control. Decisions regarding refunds will be made by and at the discretion of the University. To request a refund, please visit the 'Request Refund' link at the bottom of this page.

  • What type of recognition or accreditation will I receive after completing the short course?

    Most UTAS short courses are non-accredited, with a few exceptions. If you register in a non-accredited short course, you will be awarded a digital UTAS Certification of Completion.

  • I am an international participant, can I register in a short course?

    Yes, anyone can register in a short course. The price does not vary for domestic or international participants.

  • How do I reprint an invoice?

    While logged in click on your profile name in the top right of the screen, select 'My Account', then 'Order History', click on an order and then 'Print Receipt'
